A percentage of the gold value, set by how much work the piece takes. A plain chain sits at the bottom of the range and a bridal haar at the top. Its own line on your bill.
8–14%Weighed and tested across the counter while you watch, valued at that morning’s rate. Nothing deducted for age, and nothing for it being somebody else’s work.
Full rateAnything bought here, bought back at the day’s rate on the gold weight. The making does not come back — nobody’s does, and a shop that says otherwise has hidden it elsewhere in the price.
Rate, less makingEvery piece marked, and put under the glass for you before you pay rather than after. The number goes on the bill.
Every piecePolishing, cleaning and resizing free for as long as you own it. Repairs at cost on anything from this shop, whichever generation of us sold it to you.
No chargeOut of the west exit, across to Ranade Road, past the flower sellers. The narrow shop with the wooden front, opposite the Kabutar Khana, between the sari shop and the bank.
Come in without warning if you like. For bridal, send word first and the back room will be kept free.
